It was back in 1970 that the senior students at Lively High were allowed to have a commons room to chill out in. We were given permission to decorate the room as we liked. It was decided to paint murals on the walls and doors. Our theme was super hero’s and the door, my contribution was of course outer space with homage to 2001 A Space Odyssey.
In 2014 I returned to Lively High so that I could photo document the murals, if they were still there. Being escorted by the custodian to the room I was told it was now called the graffiti room. She meant it, as students from a later year did their best to add their own form of expression.
I took the pictures and with the magic of Photoshop was able to sort of restore them. Here then is the 1970 vision Photoshop’d followed by the 2014 vision.
The 2014 visions (tagged)
The 2017 versions a re edit – the entrance doors and the wall mural.
Must have been a nostalgic treat for you to go back to Lively High and see these beautiful murals, glad they were still there for you see!!
It certainly was not a treat to see the damage and tagging that was done to these pictures in the years since they were done. It was heart breaking that someone or some people could and did this damage. The undamaged pictures remain in the past, only the tagged walls remain now.
